He dialled a couple of times. She stared at her phone a couple of more times. She wanted to switch off her phone already. He kept dialling. Her phone kept ringing.
She finally picked up.
John(J): Uko wapi?
Mary (M):Kwa hao.
J: Unado. Nakuja hivo.
M: Niko busy. Ata natoka in a few.
J: So nikuchill tao.
M: Niko busy. (Hanging up phone)
Goodness gracious. She thought. This men never took NO for an answer, did they. And she was too adorable not to say yes. Now she was stuck with this overly ambitious guy who was trying harder than tough cow’s skin to get into her skin. She had pulled the ‘late working hours’, ‘visiting mama’s, ‘attending an art event ‘ card. He never made it to her place. So it worked. Or did it? He kept calling. He kept texting. He kept taking her out for lunches and even dinners.
She was independent. Paid her own bills. Cooked her own meal. Even fixed her own plumbing and changed her bulb. So what was John gonna do for her? Sole provider and bread winner, she already was.
John didn’t care. He liked her. He loved her. Her independence especially. How she handled everything so flawlessly yet still looked just as gorgeous. He wasn’t planning on letting her go.
Mary like him too. She was just too stubborn and proud. She knew she at least needed someone to rub her feet and embrace her after a long day.
He dialled again.
She picked up almost immediately.
J:Hey. Unakuja tao?
M: Nipe like 20minutes. Tumeet ile cafe.
J: Poa. See ya.
He smiled and made called the cafe to reserve the best table and save a slice of her favourite cake.
