When I first heard that the theme of this year’s Storymoja Festival was to be ‘Black Peace’, I wondered whether there was a connection to the African American’s ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. Or at the very least, a customization of it that would fit our culture. Later, I asked myself, does it matter really?

Artist: Zukiswa Wanner

Zukiswa Wanner is the 2015 winner of South African Literary Award’s K.Sello Duiker Award for her fourth novel, London Cape Town Joburg. Her third novel Men of the South was shortlisted for Commonwealth Best Book Award.

Artist: Kinyanjui Kombani

Kinyanjui Kombani is a creative writer, banker, learning facilitator, award winning entrepreneur and business mentor based in Nairobi, Kenya.

He is the author of 2 published novels and several children’s books.

Artist: Mike Lockett

Dr. Michael Lockett is a teller of traditional tales in a non-traditional manner. Lockett has been telling stories for 40 plus years.

The 2017 Storymoja Festival

The Theme of the 2017 Storymoja Festival is Black Peace. This theme is apt as it comes at a time when the entire world is concerned with the politics of identity. The 2017 Storymoja Festival will also fall exactly 10 years after the 2007/08 Post election violence, as well as on an election year in Kenya.

Schools Program /Creativity Contest

The Storyhippo Schools Programme runs on the first three days of the Festival – 27th September – 29th September 2017. It presents specially designed sessions for age groups between 6 – 18 years.
